You’ve Got A Friend

There are times when you are just too busy and there is so much going on at home and work, that catching up with friends falls by the wayside. And next thing you know, you are running into them in the supermarket saying, “We really MUST catch up!”.

There are also times when you need to seek out different people who fill your cup and are the right friend for the ‘job’.

We all have them – different friends for different occasions.

There’s the ones who love to have bubbles and lots of laughs. There are those who are advice wagons and will provide you with “the right way” to solve every problem in the world. There are the friends who love to gossip about anyone and everyone but assure you you’re secrets are safe with them!

There are work friends, school mum friends, once-a-year catch up friends, best friends and everything in between.

I like catching up with people and talking and socialising but I am not a person with many close friends. I never have been. Through school, I had a small group of good friends who had similar interests to me and we did everything together. In my 20s, friendship groups seemed to flourish! It’s that time in your life when you are at University or working, don’t have kids and have time to invest in a large, diverse group of people. Ah – the amazing 20s!

Now, nearing the end of my 30s, I have a large number of people I view as friends – people I love to catch up craig-whitehead-431483-unsplashwith but don’t get to see regularly. And, then I have those people who are close and who, as a family, we catch up with regularly – they have kids same age as mine and are going through similar family/life things as us.

But I have recently been struck by a new group that’s emerging for me and who’s friendship and advice has been invaluable. These creative women have provided me with much needed comfort and words of wisdom. They have followed their hearts, believed in their dreams, and are making their mark. I have been inspired by how these two women have had the courage to take a leap of faith – and it is paying off!

These women have started their own businesses and it is wonderful to see how their ideas are coming fruition and the success they are achieving.

At a time in my life where I am looking to find a different, new career path, these women have helped me not lose hope, keep moving forward and believing in myself.

So, Jessica and Jennifer, I say a heartfelt “Thank You” for your friendship, support and belief in me. Your friendship, especially over the last month has been invaluable.

And to all my other friends, I love and care for you all dearly and can’t wait to find that time when we can clear space in our diaries and catch up for our favourite things: food, wine and laughs.

Happy times.

Danielle x

  1. Hi Danielle,

Thank you for your post. Your heart-warming words could not have come at a better time as I was in the middle of sending out 10 invoices in a row and it was exactly the brain break I needed. It’s not easy to run a business, let alone a creative one, but your words affirmed not only the friendship we have formed in recent months but also that the work I am doing is benefiting good people such as you. It is no accident that we have met at this point in our lives and I value your friendship.

Aim high, read widely, and keep creating. I will be cheering you on as we navigate this word of arts entrepreneurship together. Thank you for promoting The Serenade Files. I shall return the favour once your article in Australian Teacher Magazine goes to print. I’m proud of the work you are doing and I also love Carole King. You have good taste in music. For this, and many other reasons, you’ve got a friend in me.

PS. Once I finish the exciting world of invoicing today, I shall respond to your article pitches. Thank you for sending them before the agreed deadline, you’re wonderful!

    Cheers,
    Jennifer

  2. Dan! This post is beautiful. Thank you so much for mentioning me. Our friendship has blossomed over the years. I’m very thankful to have such a strong and kind hearted friend ‘you’ in my life. So thank you for everything that you do! You’re so right about that we have many different friends in our lives. We meet people to guide us and help us through our lives.

Life is short, and we need to make the most of what we LOVE doing. I think you truly know where your passion lies, it’s just about taking that ‘leap of faith’ and then enjoying the ride that comes with it.

At the end of the day our lives are whatever we make them to be – big or small.

Reach for the stars. You have everything in you to do so.

    Love always xx

PS. I love this song 🙂
