I love Christmas!
I really mean it! I love the excitement, the anticipation, the decorations, the food, the giving and receiving, the time spent with family and friends, the music, the lights.
I really do feel like it is the most wonderful time of the year.
And, as a teacher in Australia, I love this time of year because, while it is busy with end of year things such as carol nights and graduations, it signals the last few weeks before SUMMER SCHOOL HOLIDAYS!
Ah – summer holidays – 5 weeks off.
And before all you non-teacher people roll your eyes and say how lucky we are and how we shouldn’t complain so much about our job because we get so many holidays, just stop and think about what we do in our job. How we can’t go to the toilet when we want. How we get paid for only 5 hours work a day though we do so many more. That we are teaching your children and nurturing them and caring for them day in and day out with a smile on our faces even though we are tired and exhausted.
Anyway, enough about the world of teaching…
These holidays for me are going to be about relaxing, relaxing, relaxing. I really need to stop, rest and recharge. It has been such a busy year and I am feeling it.
So my plan is to up stumps and go to be near the sea. To spend time at the beach, sit on the sand and walk in the water.
I want to read and to write.
I want my kids to be free and wild and for them to be able to relax and unwind. They absolutely love the beach – exploring and playing.
After another incredibly busy year, dedicating these holidays to pure rest and relaxation will help us all reset and prepare for 2018.
So, here’s to Christmas and summer holidays! For me – this truly is the most wonderful time of the year.
Happy relaxing!
